The Kalama Community Fair begins Thursday and continues through Saturday at Haydu Park.

The fair began in 1965. This year’s theme is Midsummer Magic.

Tickets to get in are $3 for adults and $2 for children ages 7 to 12, while children age 6 and younger are free.

The fair kicks off at 11:30 a.m. Thursday with an opening ceremony and the start of animal judging and showmanship. Fair activities as well as the beer garden open at noon.

Thursday is Kids Day from noon to 2 p.m., which will feature kids games, a balloon artist, and free cotton candy. Kids age 12 and under get in free and a ride bracelet will cost only $5 (compared to regular price of $7). Those with a Kids Day flyer can get $1 off the ride bracelet.

The Kalama Fair Queen Coronation is at 7 p.m., followed by a reception with free strawberry shortcake at the exhibit hall.

The fair and beer garden open at noon on Friday, followed by a kids pie diving contest, reptile roadshow, drone demonstration and more.

The Horse Game Show begins at 6 p.m. and live music lasts until 10 p.m.

The Chamber of Commerce Parade down Main Street kicks off Saturday’s festivities at 11 a.m. Participants can enter until Friday and will line up at Meeker Drive beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The fair and beer garden open at noon, with games and entertainment continuing through the afternoon, including the class of 2020 cow pie bingo and raffle drawing. AC/DC tribute band Thunderstruck will take the stage at 8 p.m. to close out the fair.

All-day events Thursday through Saturday include music by Twin City DJ, Kalama 4H Club demonstrations, a 27-foot slide, train ride, rock wall, bounce houses, games, vendors, food and more.

Dogs are not allowed at Haydu Park except those entered in a fair event.

Cleone Kockritz, fair board secretary, said this is the third year the fair has been held at Haydu Park. The event has expanded each year and the predicted weather this weekend should help draw a large crowd, she said.

“We encourage people to come. It’s fun,” Kockritz said. “There’s something for everybody.”
