The Kalama School District will break ground on its new elementary school Friday, the last day of the school year.
The groundbreaking ceremony is set for 10 a.m. at the baseball field on the south side of China Garden Road. Kalama students will attend the event.
Teresa Young, with the school district, said Superintendent Eric Nerison and at least one school board member will make addresses. The school band will be there, and the students will sing a song, she said.
"We're just excited about it," Young said. "We think it's going to be really cool."
The construction trailer is at the site, but Young said she didn't know how soon work would begin after Friday's event.
