Highway 30 in Oregon was closed between St. Helens and Rainier after police activity in the area Wednesday morning shut down the roadway, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

The highway closed around 7 a.m. Wednesday, and was still closed as of 2 p.m. that same day, according to ODOT.

Washington State Patrol spokesman Will Finn said there was an "extended delay" near milepost 35 but that traffic was being detoured down old Highway 30.

An ODOT press release said although cars were able to take the detour, larger trucks and semis had to take alternate routes.

The closure was expected to last several more hours, according to ODOT.
