In this TDN file photo from 2017, Kris Swanson reflects on her time as Cowlitz County Auditor near the end of her last term in the role.

Five-term Cowlitz County Auditor Kristina Swanson will join the City of Longview staff in March as the new director of administrative services.

In that role, Swanson will oversee the city’s finance and information technology departments. She brings more than 28 years of public service experience, according to a news release.

Swanson started her public service career in 1991 as a manager for the county election’s division. She later was elected to five terms as the county auditor, serving from 1999 through 2017.

In November 2017, Swanson joined the state auditor’s executive team in Olympia, where she led the agency’s administrative functions as director of operations. She also served as director for the Center for Government Innovation, a non-audit division of the state auditor’s office that helps local governments improve service delivery and run cost effectively and efficiently.

“Given her longstanding career in public service as the Cowlitz County Auditor and as Director of Operations for the Washington State Auditor’s Office, Kris brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to local government,” City Manager Kurt Sacha said in a prepared statement Thursday. “She has proven herself as a highly praised leader in the community, and I look forward to working with Kris in her new role.”
