Spirit Lake Memorial Highway remained closed in both directions Tuesday evening as a result of a fatal crash between a Ford Explorer and a lumber truck, the Washington State Patrol reported.
The identity of the victim, who was the driver and who is believed to have been the only occupant of the Explorer, had not yet been confirmed as of 5 p.m., WSP spokesman Will Finn said. He also could not confirm whether there were other injuries.

The road was not expected to fully reopen until about 6:30 p.m. so a collision technical specialist could investigate the crash, Finn said.
Finn said the Explorer struck the rear of the lumber truck, which was parked on the shoulder.
The wreck occurred around 3:30 p.m. near milepost 7 of the highway, Finn said. The highway remained blocked and some motorcyclists were detouring through Jennings Drive and Morning Star Drive, Finn said, although there was no official detour through the area Tuesday.
Lifeflight was dispatched but called off once the victim was confirmed deceased, Finn said.
