Local service members, veterans and their families can get a variety of free services Monday at the annual Cowlitz County Veterans Expo and Stand Down.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calvary Chapel at 902 Ash St. in Kelso.
The stand down will include employment and legal assistance as well as health, housing and mental health resources.
“It brings many providers into one location, so veterans and family members don’t have to go out and find them,” stand down chairman Tony Katzenberger said.
Katzenberger said that for the first time the event will include an employment transition coach to help unemployed or underemployed attendees. Employers, including Lowe’s and KapStone Paper and Packaging, are participating in the small-scale hiring event, he said.
The stand down also offers assistance for homeless veterans or family members. Katzenberger said the event allows Cowlitz County Veterans to get homeless veterans help, track where they are and work to get them of the street.
The event will also offer free flu shots, lunch, haircuts, shower vouchers and toiletries.
RiverCities Transit will offer free transportation to the event.
