Just a few days after the Clatskanie School District cancelled all public meetings until after the May 1 recall vote, its school board has set a special executive session board meeting for Monday.
According to Larry Cook, a technology director for the district, the 6 p.m. meeting’s only purpose is to hold an executive session. The board will “consider information or records that are exempt by law from public inspection.” The email announcing the meeting was sent late Friday afternoon.
Oregon law states that the pubic cannot attend executive sessions. Members of the press may attend, but they may not use any information from the meetings unless the information is obtained some other way.
An open session will follow the executive session, according to Cook’s email.
School board member Megan Evenson said the meeting was necessary because of recent events that the school board needed to discuss with lawyers “promptly.” She did not disclose the items being discussed with lawyers.
According to Evenson, the board members decided on Friday to have the special meeting.
Evenson added that the board may choose to vote on the matter discussed after the executive session once the board enters open session.
