Columbia County sheriff’s deputies arrested a Clatskanie man Wednesday on suspicion of fourth-degree assault and interfering with making a report to law enforcement.
Deputies responded to a reported assault at Deshaun Andre Combs’ residence several minutes after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, according to sheriff records.
A family member said that on July 23, after returning to the house following an argument, Combs, 35 screamed at her and “smashed into her with his chest” when she stood up to move, records said. When she walked away, Combs grabbed her, she said, and threw her backwards, causing her to fall off of the porch and onto the gravel. He also reportedly grabbed the arm of a person who tried to call 911, a witness said.

Combs told deputies that the family member had been hitting him, and that she fell over onto the porch when he threw his arms up while blocking the blows, according to records. He denied intentionally pushing her or trying to stop another family member from calling 911.
The status of any charges against him was not immediately available.
Combs is a boy’s basketball coach at Clatskanie High School. He declined to comment when reached by phone Monday.
