A Castle Rock woman told police Tuesday that she fell victim to a scam by sending $7,200 to North Carolina.

The woman got a call on Oct. 31 from “Publishers Clearing House” claiming she had won $2.5 million and a new car, according to the 911 call log. She was told to send money for taxes, and sent several checks totaling $7,200.

After talking to family members about the prize, she realized she had been scammed, the report said. She is now working with her bank to get the checks cancelled before they are cashed.
