Longview police began issuing $124 tickets Monday for red-light runners captured by the city's red-light cameras.

Eight cameras are posted at the following intersections, which are posted with warning signs to notify people they're monitored.

• Eastbound and westbound on Ocean Beach Highway at 15th Avenue

• Eastbound and westbound on Ocean Beach Highway at NW Nichols Boulevard

• All four intersection approaches on Ocean Beach Highway and 38th Avenue.

The cameras operate 24 hours a day and capture still images and video of every vehicle that runs a red light. Citations are issued to the vehicle's registered owner.

Warnings will continue for school zone speed violations at Columbia Valley Gardens Elementary (2600 block of 30th Avenue) and Mint Valley Elementary (2700 block of 38th Avenue) through Feb. 28. Citations with fines will kick in starting March 1. The school zone cameras will operate only during school zone hours. They won't operate after school hours or on weekends, holidays and summer vacation.
