An April 18 trial date was set Tuesday for 13-year-old Kelso resident Dawson Dunn, who is charged with first-degree manslaughter in the shooting death of another 13-year-old.
Dunn was arrested a month after the Oct. 14 shooting, when police say he allegedly shot Edgar Vazquez with a shotgun he thought was unloaded at his home. Dawson told the investigating officer that he had retrieved the shotgun from the master bedroom, according to police records.
The trial will take place from April 18 to 20, which is unusually long for a juvenile case, due to the large amount of evidence the prosecution and defense teams plan to present. The date was selected after Dunn’s defense requested a later trial, citing additional information and evidence that had only recently become available.
