Try 3 months for $3

A volunteer landscaping project Saturday will give the Al Helenberg Memorial Boat Launch a “Castle Rock touch,” said Nancy Chennault, volunteer coordinator for the Castle Rock Blooms program.

Community volunteers and the Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network team will work from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to fill the parking lot islands near the boat launch with new flowers and trees.

“It’ll be a tie-in with what is going on in Castle Rock colorwise and plantwise, Chennault said. “There will be no doubt you’re in Castle Rock.”

The beautification project will also include pruning, fertilizing and other landscape maintenance tasks.

The project is sponsored by the local branch of AmeriCorps, a national community service organization. That group plans four major community service projects each year, Cowlitz AmeriCorps Network Director Troy Packard said.

Community members interested in volunteering can meet with the AmeriCorps and Castle Rock Blooms volunteers at the boat launch off Westside Highway.
