July 21: Vanson Peak (strenuous); drive 160 miles round trip; hike 13 miles with a 2,600 foot elevation gain; walk behind Cathedral Falls, one of the best in the Pacific Northwest, primeval forest, tranquil lake, view from an old lookout; David: 360-577-4218.
July 25: Rock Creek Bike Path (easy); drive 90 miles round trip; walk 4 miles round trip or bike 10-plus miles with 100 foot elevation gain on paved pathway through urban greenway; Bruce: 360-425-0256.
July 28: Grassy Knoll/Big Huckleberry (easy-strenuous); drive 190 miles round trip; hike 11 miles round trip with 1,100 to 2,500 foot elevation gain for an easier, less crowded, view of Dog Mountain; George W: 360-562-0001.
Aug. 4: Kollen Creek/Divide Camp Loop (moderate-strenuous); drive 240 miles round trip; hike 11 miles round trip with 1,600 foot elevation gain near timberline on Mount Adams; great views and alpine scenery; Dan: 360-355-6241.
