The Mount St. Helens Hiking Club typically holds several hikes each month. Anyone interested in the hikes is welcome.

Saturday: Tatoosh Ridge (moderate-strenuous); drive 210 miles round trip; hike 6 to 10 miles with 2,000 to 3,500 foot elevation gain to viewpoint of Mount Adams, Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier; continue through alpine meadows to a former lookout; Mary Jane: 360-355-5220.

Wednesday: Lake Sacajawea (easy); walk (3-plus miles) around the whole lake or (1-plus) miles around half the lake; Ed: 360-414-1160.

Aug. 18: Summit Creek-Jug Lake (strenuous); drive 240 miles round trip, hike 11 miles with 2,200 foot elevation gain on Cowlitz Trail 44 and Jug Lake Trail 43 in William O’Douglas Wilderness Area to scenic Jug lake and then up to Carlton Ridge Viewpoint; Bruce: 360-425-0256.

Aug. 22: Abernathy Creek (easy); drive 40 miles round trip to Abernathy Creek Road; hike 4 miles round trip with little elevation gain on abandoned road through old-growth forest along scenic Abernathy Creek; Bruce: 360-425-0256, Chere: 702-467-0752.

Aug. 25: Johnston Ridge/Windy Ridge Keypass (moderate); drive 190 miles round trip; hike 8.7 miles with 800 foot elevation gain; hike High Point Ridge; a rare opportunity to walk on the Pumice Plains; Bill D.: 503-260-6712.

Sept. 1: Mount Margaret (moderate-strenuous); drive 260 miles round trip, hike 11 miles round trip with 2,400 foot elevation gain through 1980 Mount St. Helens blast zone to the top of Mount Margaret for view of Spirit Lake and St. Helens Lake; Bill D.: 503-260-6712.
