Over 230 commonly used cosmetics contain high levels of a toxic chemical linked to several health issues. This is according to a new study by researchers at the University of Notre Dame. It was discovered that 56% of foundations and eye products contain high levels of fluorine, which is an indicator of PFAS. Fluorine was also found in 48% of the lip products that were tested and 47% of mascaras. According to the study, 82% of waterproof mascara and 62% of long-lasting lipsticks contain very high levels of PFAS. The researchers say that PFAS has been linked to reduced birth weight and cancer. This comes as a bipartisan group of senators have recently introduced a bill to ban the use of PFAS in beauty products. These chemicals are a menace hidden in plain sight that people literally display on their faces every day, Senator Susan Collins.
