The annual Jazz and Oysters festival offered by the Water Music Society, takes place from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Nahcotta Boat Basin, 3311 275th St., Ocean Park. “Doors” open at 11:30 a.m.
Opening the event is the Ilwaco High School Jazz Band, one of many school organizations supported by Jazz and Oysters. Next is the full size swing band, the North Coast Big Band from Astoria. The group specializes in the music of “The American Songbook,” performing tunes from Dixieland to music of today. Performing next is the Good Co Jazz, a six-piece Seattle band, the United States’ first live Electro Swing Band, according to a press release from event organizers. Wrapping up the day is Eugenie Jones, a Seattle-based vocalist with a reminiscent style and sophistication of iconic vocalists of the past.
Grilled oysters, beer and wine will be available at the child-friendly event along with an array of foods for people who are not fond of oysters.
Attendees should bring chairs or blankets to sit on. Dogs on leashes are welcome. In addition, no outside food or beverages should be brought to the event.
The cost is $25 per person, $12.50 for children 6 to 18 years old and free for children younger than 5 years old and younger. Tickets can be purchased online at watermusicfestival.com or at the gate.
Money raised from all Water Music Society events, including Jazz and Oysters benefit the Pacific County School District music programs.
