Lower Columbia College Science Fiction Club, Business Club and IT Club members are gearing up for their NanoCon Mark V Science Fiction Convention set to take place over two days from 5:30 to 9 p.m. March 23, and from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. March 24.
The March 23 film festival takes place in the Wollenberg Auditorium in the Rose Center for the Performing Arts and the March 24 convention activities take place in the Health Sciences Building at Lower Columbia College, 1600 Maple St., Longview.
The event includes science fiction films, presentations, panels, workshops, table top and video games, RPS, and a cosplay contest, among others. Accessories, T-shirts and collectibles will be available.
Stovokor, a Klingon heavy metal band, performs March 23 only. Guests include Tadd Galusha, a comic book illustrator and publisher; and Greg and Astrid Bear, a science fiction author and writer, respectively.
Admission to the film festival only is $5. Children younger than 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Note that some films may not be suitable for children younger than 13 years old. Films submitted specifically for the Youth category premiere March 24.
Bronze-level membership costs $10 and includes admission to all NanoCon Mark V activities.
Silver-level membership is $25 per person and includes admission to all activities along with an official NanoCon Mark V T-shirt.
Gold-level membership includes admission to all activities, an official NanoCon Mark V T-shirt, an official signed poster and reserved seating at all event activities.
