Jan. 21, 1922 — Aug. 29, 2018
Violet Lorraine Hall passed away Aug. 29, 2018, at the Hospice Care Center in Longview.
She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Slayton, Minn., to Olof and Beda Johnson. Joni enjoyed growing up on the farm with her three sisters and two brothers. She was a trick-riding tomboy.
After graduating from nursing school in Chicago, Joni joined the Navy in 1944 and served until 1949. She earned the rank of lieutenant (JG) and received a World War II Victory Medal, American Area Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. During her time in the service Joni met her husband, Robert “Bob” Hall. They were married in 1948.
In 1950 Bob and Joni moved to Portland for Bob to finish his engineering degree. They had three sons while living there. The family of five moved to Longview in 1964. Here Joni resumed her nursing career at Cowlitz General Hospital.
After raising their family in Longview they moved to Portland, Texas, in 1974, where they made many wonderful lifelong friends. Joni continued her nursing career until retiring in 1989. Bob passed away in 1996.
She had an active social life at the North Shore Country Club, where she was an avid golfer and bridge player. She also became a world traveler and often included her sons in her adventures around the globe.
In 2014 she returned to Longview for health reasons. She packed it all in, and lived a very full life, filled with adventure, love and friendship. Joni also enjoyed her glass of chardonnay in the evening.
In addition to Bob, Joni was preceded in death by her five siblings.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Hall (Carol) of Simpsonville, S.C., Roger Hall (Cathy Jo) of Everett, Wash., and Jeffrey Hall of Longview; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
