Thomas Duane Riffe Sr., 81, of Longview, WA passed away at home August 30, 2017. Thomas was born March 21, 1936 in Leeds, North Dakota to Lionel Metcalf and Ivy Mae Morkert, and lived in the local area for 71 years, graduating from R.A. Long in 1954. He earned an Associates Degree from Lower Columbia College.
Thomas served in the Army, and was stationed in Japan from 1955 to 1958. He was a Longview policeman from 1958 to 1967, worked in Longview Public Works, then retired as Director of Finance for the City of Longview in 1992.
He was a member of the Jaycees, Lions, and Sandbaggers. Thomas liked watching hockey, reading, and he taught judo at YMCA for a while in the 60s. He had a great sense of humor.
Thomas married Patricia in Tacoma in October 1962. She survives him at home. Also surviving, his brother, Keith of Yakima; two sons, Thomas Riffe Jr., of Longview and Lawrence M. Riffe of Fife; 3 grandsons, and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry Riffe.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 12 noon, September 16, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, with Craig Hafterson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or Trinity Lutheran Church. Columbia Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

(Sorry; forgot to use my full name in first comment.) Tom grew from a tough-cop type into a dedicated city government official and was selfless in his service to the community. An example for all. My sincerest condolences to his family and close friends.

Tho' I didn't know Tom Riffe personally, I was able to watch him grow from a tough-cop type into the professional and dedicated public servant and gentleman he became. His service to the community is exemplary and an example for all. He has left the world a better place. My sincerest condolences to his family and close friends.
