Longtime Longview resident Sandra L. Mitchell-Griffith, 70, passed away April 4, 2017.
She was born Feb. 4, 1947, in Longview, to the late Lloyd and Phyllis (Downey) Mitchell. Sandy earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Central Washington University and performed her post graduate work in special education. Sandy retired from the Longview School District in 2004. She was a member of Eastern Star and Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).

Sandy married Gilmour “Gil” Griffith July 3, 1980, in Whidbey Island, Wash. He survives her at home. Also surviving are a brother, Jeff Mitchell (Jan) of Port Orchard, Wash.; a sister, Wendy Mitchell (Wayne Mikkelson) of Ashland, Ore.; a stepson, Randy Griffith (Carla); a stepdaughter, LaJeana Griffith; two stepgrandchildren, Allison and Houston; a stepgreat-granddaughter; three nephews, Brian Mitchell (Jenny) of Kelso, Scott Mitchell (Kari) of Maple Valley, Wash.; and Adam DeHeer (Alexandra DeAranjo) of Eugene, Ore.; and two great-nieces, Addison and Mia.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. May 13 at the Longview Presbyterian Church.
