Ruth Lavonne Edwards, 94, of Longview passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, March 6, 2019.
She was born Dec. 9, 1924, in Kingston, Ark., to John and Ora (Duvall) White. On Feb. 7, 1943, she married the love of her life Jessie “Willard” Edwards in Huntsville, Ark., and became a mother and homemaker. Ruth moved to the local area 76 years ago, and Willard joined her after his discharge from the Army during World War II.
Ruth enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, canning and reading. She had a generous, patient, loving nature. She was always positive, sweet, kind, and had a good sense of humor.
Ruth is survived by four children, Wayne Edwards (Lucy) of Novato, Calif., Sherry Roberts (Clay) of Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Carol Lockman (Gary) and Scott Edwards (Dixie), both of Longview; seven grandchildren, Geoffrey Edwards (Jennifer) of Fayetteville, Ark., Ami Roberts and Jessica Woodruff (Luke), both of Portland, Amanda Hoxie (Sean) of Dallas, Ore., Emily Roberts (Jeff) of San Bruno, Calif., Rose Edwards of Olympia and Maya Edwards of Longview; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her seven siblings.
A funeral service is planned for noon Wednesday, March 13 at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park with The Rev. Kathleen Patton officiating. A reception will follow in the Hospitality Room. A viewing will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today, Tuesday the 12th at Steele Chapel.
