Aug. 10, 1929 — July 30, 2018
Lifelong Wahkiakum County resident Robert A. ‘Bob’ Hendrickson, 88, of Cathlamet passed away July 30, 2018. Bob was born at the family home on Puget Island on Aug. 10, 1929, to Swedish immigrants Albin and Elin (Olsson) Hendrickson. Bob grew up on the Puget Island family farm and later graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1947.
In 1951 Bob married Gloria Eidem, and they then took over the family farm and began raising their six children. What started as a dairy farm, later changed to raising beef cattle, which lead to Bob’s career move into the meat cutting, butcher shop, and cattle hauling field. In 1966 he purchased the Wahkiakum Refrigeration Company and continued serving the community there until his retirement in 1993.
Bob was a lifelong member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, where he sang in the choir as well as the men’s quartet. Bob’s other memberships included the Puget Island/Elochoman Grange, the Wahkiakum Historical Society, the Wahkiakum Soil Conservation District, and the Wahkiakum School Board.
Bob was an active supporter of Wahkiakum Mule sports, especially if it involved his kids, and later on his grandchildren. He was a Trailblazer, Seahawk, Mariner, Husky/Cougar fan as well; he loved sports!
In his retirement years Bob loved to research his family genealogy, which led to several trips to visit relatives in Sweden, as well as hosting some of the Swedes who came to visit Cathlamet.
