Richard Charette of Longview passed away peacefully with loved-ones by his side at the Hospice Center Jan. 8, 2019. He went to be with Jesus his Lord at the age of 68 after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born to George and Georgia (Stanley) Charette on Oct. 25, 1950, and raised in Longview. He attended Mark Morris High School and Lower Columbia College before graduating from St. Martin’s College with a bachelor of arts in psychology. He later received a degree in chemical dependency from Lower Columbia College.
Rick proudly served in the Air Force from 1972 to 1993 and was a veteran of the Korean War and Desert Shield/Storm. He was awarded many medals during his service and retired with the title of master sergeant. After serving in the military and furthering his education, Rick was a mental health counselor for Peace Health and St. John Medical Center for 15 years. He was passionate about helping others and had a genuine interest in caring for the needs of those around him.
He met his wife, Pam at New Life Fellowship. They married on Feb. 18, 2000, in Longview.
Community was important to Rick. He attended Father’s House Church and especially enjoyed the fellowship of the men’s Bible study. He facilitated the 1414 Club, volunteered at jail ministries and spoke regularly at Victims Impact Panel. He was a member of Gideons International and put great importance on spreading the life giving word and love of God.
Rick’s zest for life was easy to see. Rick and Pam loved traveling, taking cruises, and many amazing trips around the world. He enjoyed the adventure of travel and was not one to shy away from something new. He enjoyed reading, a good meal, and spending quality time with family. He was known for his great sense of humor and loved to joke around.
Rick will be remembered for his positive outlook, ready smile, work ethic, gentleness, generosity, inextinguishable faith, and so much more.
Rick is survived by his wife, Pam; two children from his former marriage to Norma Nelson, Chad Charette, and Kelly Boutte (Jim); two stepchildren, Rebecca Jones (Keith), and Krista Taylor (Steve); six grandchildren, Blake, Jasmine, and Audrey Boutte, Matilda and Megan Jones, and Arielle Taylor; a sister, Carol Charette; an aunt, Glenda Fittro; and numerous cousins and extended family members.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel, 5050 Mt. Solo Road, in Longview with fellowship to follow.
