Jan. 13, 1941 — Jan. 5, 2019
Richard Hoskinson, 77, of Longview was reunited with Carol, the love of his life, Jan. 5, 2019.
He was born Jan. 13, 1941, in Gig Harbor, Wash., to Archie and Arlene (Banister) Hoskinson.
On Aug. 2, 1969, he married Carol J. Ottoson in Rapid City, S.D. They moved to the local area in 1970. Carol preceded him in death on Oct. 28, 2016.
Richard was a Gallenkamp Shoe Store Western District manager from 1966 to 1975, worked for Tollycraft Yachts from 1975 to 1997, and started his own company, Yacht Specialties in 2004, before retiring in 2006.
Richard was a member of the Elks Lodge and enjoyed camping, golfing, woodworking and playing cards. He was a very stubborn man, quite set in his ways, but would give the shirt off his back to help those close to him. He loved as fiercely as he lived and took great joy in making people laugh. He definitely did things “his way” all the way to the end.
Survivors include a son, Kevin Hoskinson (Nikki) of Erie, Colo.; a daughter, Carol Ann Carnese (Chuck) of Portland; three grandsons, Aidan and Patrick Hoskinson of Erie and Nathan Goldsby of Wenatchee, Wash.; two granddaughters, Samantha Buffon (John) of Longview, and Kylie Barber of Portland; two great-grandchildren, Alexandrea and William Buffon of Longview; and a sister, Sharon Wilke of Seattle.
A memorial service is planned for 4 p.m. Jan. 19 at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Cowlitz County, P.O. Box 172, Longview, WA 98632 or the Community Home Health & Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.
