Phyllis Maxine Mason, age 98, passed away Oct. 1, 2019, at Canterbury Gardens in Longview, WA. Phyllis was born June 30, 1921, to Llewelynn and Lillian Jones in Wymore, NE. Phyllis moved to the local area in her teenage years and graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1939. She worked for many years as the district manager of the switch board at the Long Bell Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Circle for more than 50 years, a devoted member to St. Rose Catholic Church and organized and planned funerals and bazaars. Phyllis was famous for her pumpkin and pecan pies; she loved baking and entertaining family and friends. She was very caring and loved helping people. She also loved and cared for animals.

In 1942, Phyllis married Marion Newton, who died in World War II. She later married Fink Mason in Longview in 1952. She is survived by her great niece Jennifer (Ted) Fuller, of Silver Lake, WA; nieces Rita, Irene and Marie (Buchard) Mason; and nephews Tim and Mark Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Fink Mason and three brothers, Paul, Monte and Buster.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 9, 2019, at the St. Rose Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Community Home Health & Hospice.
