O. Duane Hendrick, 86, of Longview passed away July 27, 2017, at the Canterbury Inn.
Duane was born Sept. 5, 1930, in San Bernardino, Calif., to Otis M. and Dorpha (Rodman) Hendrick. The family moved to the local area when Duane was a child. He graduated from Kelso High School (1949) and Northwest Bible College (1954). Duane was generous and had a servant’s heart. He loved God, and his family, friends and neighbors deeply.
Duane served in the Coast Guard in Clallam Bay, Wash., and had a lifelong love of boats. He enjoyed creating wooden replicas. He was a delivery driver for various companies before retiring from Reynolds (1992) after many years of service.
Duane enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, motorcycle riding, playing music, singing, traveling and making people laugh. He was friendly, hospitable, kind and considerate.
In June of 1954 he married Freddie Cade in LaGrande, Ore. She preceded him in death in 2008. He later married Armina Joos in Kelso. She survives him in Belgrade, Mont. Also surviving are three children, Bob Hendrick (Becky), Sandi Kirkwood (Duane) and Pam Hamer (Jim), all of Longview; two stepchildren, Don Joos and Sherryl Greenig (Ron), both of Belgrade; several much-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many great friends.
In addition to his first wife, Freddie, Duane was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Eldred. A brother, Ralph Hendrick passed away Aug. 3rd.
A memorial service is planned for 11 a.m. Aug. 26 at the Kelso Christian Assembly, 403 Academy St., with a reception to follow. Family friend Nic Anderson and Pastor Robert Stanford will officiate.
