Marguerite B. Hildebrand Riiff was born on her parent’s Fulton, SD, farm on January 3, 1924 — the 12th of Claude and Margaret Hildebrand’s 14 children. On Oct. 3, age 95, she died peacefully in the care of Hospice.
Marguerite graduated Salutatorian of Fulton High School in1942. She trained as an optician.
She married Lawrence T. (Larry) Riiff on June 24, 1944. They moved to Longview, WA, where Marguerite worked for Hinshaw Optometrists for more than 30 years. She and Larry joined Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in PTA, Longview Business Women, supported Emmanuel Youth and R.A. Long, drove for Meals on Wheels and volunteered at Emmanuel.
Marguerite and Larry welcomed their daughter’s friends. Raymond Fujiura, remembers: “Her door was always open . . . .”

Marguerite is survived by daughter Claudia Jo, son-in-law Rick Finseth; grandchildren Eric Bjorn and Sarah Elizabeth; grandchildren-in-law Kristin McCarrey and Aaron Johnson; great-grandchildren, Ruth Avery, Josephine Birgit, Thomas Alexander and a fourth due in a few weeks; and many nieces and nephews.
Marguerite and Larry were married for 64 years. They travelled the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Britain, Europe and Scandinavia. Marguerite cared for Larry as his health deteriorated. After he died in 2008, she stayed in their home.
Marguerite was friendly, lively, feisty, adventurous, generous, young at heart and a person of faith.
