Leonard James “Jim” Snodgrass passed away Tuesday July 11, 2017 surrounded by his family at the local Hospice center, after a valiant fight with cancer.
Jim was born in Sandpoint, Idaho March 6, 1945 to Melvin James Snodgrass and Barbara Evelyn (Martin) Snodgrass. Jim’s family moved to the local area when he was a youngster. He graduated from Castle Rock High School in 1963. February 5, 1964, he enlisted in the Air Force and served honorably in Viet Nam. While stationed in Omaha, NE he met and married Mary Ann Lochman. Mary, his wife of 49 years, survives him at home in Castle Rock.
Jim was a retired member of Local 791, and was a member of the Castle Rock Eagles. He enjoyed puttering around his acreage, working on his ‘41 Ford pickup and the challenge of raising koi in his pond. For many years he enjoyed traveling in the motor home, trailering the motorcycle, setting up camp and going on day rides with dear friends. He was always ready to help his children in anyway needed and loved to cheer his granddaughter on during her games and other endeavors. Jim was a good friend to many, and met with other members of the Class of ‘63 for lunch as often as he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Bertha Snodgrass, as well as his step-father Walter L. Hite, step-brothers David Hite (Aggie), step-sisters Peggy Hite Broyles (Ken deceased), and Pat Hite Cook (Chuck deceased).

He is survived by a daughter, Anne Marie Moore (Darrin) of Kelso WA; a son, Christopher James Snodgrass of Castle Rock WA; one granddaughter, Taylor Anne Pottschmidt of Cheney WA; and an extra son, Louis W. Pottshcmidt of Olympia WA; a brother, Sonny Snodgrass (Jan); a sister Melva Snodgrass Bussing (Lyndon deceased), as well as a half-brother, Mark A Hite and half-sister, Gayle Sue Hite (Earl); step-brothers Dan Hite (Dottie deceased), Don Hite (Charleen) and several nieces and nephews.
Cremation has occurred and a memorial service will be held 1:00 on Sunday August 13, 2017 at
Hubbard Funeral Home in Castle Rock. Following the service there will be a pot luck luncheon at the Castle Rock Eagles. Interment will be at the Whittle-Hubbard Cemetery at a later date.
