Ken Ylonen, 79, died on July 28, 2019, at home. He was born June 6, 1940, in Kelso, WA. He graduated from Kelso High School and worked at Longview Fibre for 44 years, retiring in 2003. Ken married Cheryl Berquist on July 8, 1972, and they were married for 47 years. He is survived by his wife; daughter Melanie (Jason) Buck, of Longview; sons Rick (Sue) Ylonen, of Castle Rock, and Karl (Heidi) Ylonen, of LaCenter; granddaughters Maya Buck and Hilary Kammerzell; grandson Samuel Buck; sister Lucy (Gail) Hazen; sisters-in-law Iva Nurmi, Phyllis Westervelt and Marlene (Tommy) Faught; nieces and nephews; and his lifelong friend Dan (Ruby) Laulainen. Ken was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Rauha Ylonen, brother Jerry Ylonen and nephew Lon Ylonen.

Ken loved the outdoors, spending time hunting and setting up the Finn hunting camp in Grays River; he also enjoyed yearly fishing trips to the Swift Reservoir. Ken really enjoyed hiking near Packwood in the Tatoosh wilderness. He enjoyed attending his kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events and trips to Hawaii on numerous occasions. He loved all of his dogs, but Smoky was his special friend.
Cremation has taken place. Due to his wishes, there will be no service. Donations in Ken’s memory may be made to Community Home Health & Hospice or the Cowlitz County Humane Society.
