Kathleen Malone Nelson passed away Feb. 26, 2019.
She was born in Longview on Sept. 13, 1944, to Mark and Ellen Malone. Kathy graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1962, and earned a nursing degree from Seattle Community College. Her passion was caring for geriatric patients in skilled nursing facilities and private care.
Kathy met her husband, Ken Nelson while in high school. They were married Aug. 1, 1964. Kathy and Ken resided in the Seattle area for many years, and upon retiring, moved to Portland in 2011.
Friends and family knew Kathy by various nicknames, but the one she cherished the most was “Nana.”
She is survived by her husband, Ken; two sons, Robert in Lynnwood, Wash., and Mark in Stanwood, Wash.; a son-in-law, Dean Duitsman of Portland; five grandchildren, Daniel, Abby and Kyle Duitsman, and Jared and Katie Nelson; and a sister, Margaret Hugill of Lacey, Wash. Her daughter, Amy Duitsman passed away six days after her mother on March 4th.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Beth; and two brothers, Jim and Larry.
A celebration of Kathy’s life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Steele Chapel.
