John Joseph Thorpe, age 87, of Longview, passed on Aug. 19, 2019. He was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Traverse City, MI, to Joseph Earl and Marion Elizabeth (Noteware) Thorpe.

John served in the Korean War as a special forces Marine. He received a degree in civil engineering from UCLA, but used his experience as a Marine Corp MP to become a police detective, at the Ventura, CA, police department. He married Joann Foco on March 30, 1957, and in 1969, moved his family to Kelso, WA, to become the Chief of Police. John started Thorpe Construction and then went to work for the Army Corp of Engineers after the eruption of Mount St. Helens. He later retired from civil work at China Navel Weapons Center, Mojave Desert, CA, and moved back to Longview. John is survived by his wife Joann Minnie (Foco) Thorpe, three daughters and their families. There will be no service.
