Harold Lloyd Bern, Jr. died March 27, 2019, at the age of 75. He was born May 4, 1943, in Galesburg, IL, the first child of Harold, Sr. and Dorothy S. (Weinberg) Bern, who preceded him in death. He attended schools in Galesburg and Oneida, IL, and graduated from ROVA High School in 1961. He received a BA in English from Monmouth College, IL, in 1966. On February 18, 1966, he married Carol J. McMaster in Wheaton, IL. He served in the 2nd Armored Division at Fort Hood, TX, and was honorably discharged in 1969 as a First Lieutenant. He worked in Personnel and Human Resources for over 30 years in Illinois, Ohio, Texas, Michigan, Alabama, and Washington. He retired in February 2000. In the years after his retirement, he was interested in his heritage and traced his lineage back into the 1700s in Sweden. He became the editor of The Swedish American Genealogist and served in that capacity until he had a stroke in 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; a daughter, Kristine (Terence) Jenkins and a son Kurtis (Sally) Bern; grandchildren Micah and Eli Jenkins and Kelsey and Hanna Bern; a brother Michael (Pat) Bern of Roseville, IL, and a sister, Cindi (Mike) Drasites of Avon, IL. Burial will be in Oneida, IL.
