Gloria Kay Marie Seine peacefully passed away at Community Home Health and Hospice on March 23, 2019.
She was born November 28, 1940 in Salem to Clay and Anna Bentley, the youngest of four daughters. Growing up in Jefferson, Ore., she won many 4H awards at the Oregon State Fair for her seamstress skills. She attended Oregon State College majoring in textile construction and design. Her first job was teaching Home Economics at Evergreen School District in Vancouver. There she met Dick Seine who was teaching P.E. in Vancouver at a teacher party. They married June 17, 1965 in Salem. They taught in Vancouver and Cascade Locks High School before moving to Kelso. Gloria taught Home Ec and Art at Huntington Jr. High until the boys came; Roy and Steve.
Gloria was an accomplished crafter working in many medias; sewing, stained glass, card stamping, beading and bead jewelry, which she sold at bazaars and markets. Dick, Gloria, Roy and Steve spent many summers at her family’s historic gold and sapphire mine in Montana. They traveled to Sri Lanka to learn the jewelry trade which resulted in traveling all over the world buying rough gem stones from the miners and having them crafted into beautiful jewelry which they would sell at bazaars and markets.
Gloria is survived by husband Dick; sons Roy and Steve; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters.
A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Castle Rock.
