April 30, 1929 — Feb. 11, 2018
Giovanna Garrison, 88, of Kelso, died at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 11, 2018, in Longview, due to complications with pneumonia.
She was born in Portland, April 30, 1929. Giovanna’s mother Jenny, father Jim, daughter Vinci, and son Grant preceded her in death.
She was a long-time resident of Portland and the Longview-Kelso area. She graduated from Commerce High School in Portland in 1947 and soon-after married Jack Garrison. Their marriage produced Vinci and Grant.
Most of her working life was spent in the night club business, either as a waitress or a bartender and she loved every minute of it.
She is survived by seven grandchildren, Cheryle, Benny, Grant, Gary, Frank, Dallas and Jenny.
She loved entertaining, partying and have a great time whatever she did. Fishing, boating and other outdoor activities were high on her list of fun.
While talking to a nurse about her condition during her time in the hospital, the nurse replied, “Oh, you’re talking about the feisty old broad aren’t you.” That about sums Giovanna up. Indeed, she was a “feisty old broad” and I would want her in my corner any day. Giovanna’s grandchildren are blessed to have inherited that gene. They carry it with pride, and it’s how she would have wanted it.
A celebration of Giovanna’s life is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Sons of Norway.
