Nov. 4, 1943—June 18, 2019
Dennis Joe Elswick, age 75, passed away June 18, 2019, at St. Johns Hospital in Longview, WA. Dennis was born Nov. 4, 1943, in Longview to William and Lois Elswick. He lived most of his life in the local area. At age 10, Dennis moved to California with his family and spent the next seven years living around the Santa Cruz area. He returned to Kelso in his senior year to graduate from Kelso High School in 1961. Dennis married his wife Katherine of 56 years in May of 1963. They had two sons, Jeffrey, of Phoenix, AZ, and Todd (Kinda), of Kelso, WA. Dennis has five grandchildren, Derek, Kayla, Katrina, Jacob and Kyle; four great-granddaughters and an honorary daughter, Leah Thompson.
In his early years, he worked at Weyerhaeuser. In 1968, he went to work at Cowlitz PUD, retiring as a lineman in 1993. After retiring, they traveled, enjoyed camping, hunting, garage sales, photography and spending time with family and friends. Dennis was a member of the Kelso Eagles, Lower Columbia Collectables, Monticello Camera Club and he volunteered at the Kelso Train Station.
A celebration of life will be Friday, June 28, from 4-7 p.m. at the Cowlitz Valley Moose Lodge, 921 Washington Way, Longview. Donations in Dennis’ name can be made to Community Home Health & Hospice, Cowlitz Humane Society, the American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice.
