May 13, 1943 — Nov. 20, 2018
Darrel Loren Payne, 75, formerly of Longview, passed away unexpectedly in Ocean Park, Wash., on Nov. 20, 2018.
Darrel was born in Vancouver, to Donald Leslie Payne and Nita Laura (Coryell) Payne. Both parents preceded him in death, as well as a younger sister, Naela Nicholas and an older brother, Vernon Payne.
Darrel worked as a commercial painter which took him to every state in the union except Hawaii. The family loved hearing about America through his stories. He could name highways and rivers and could tell you just exactly where you can step over the Great Mississippi and not get your feet wet. He loved gigantic roller-coasters, fishing and football and looked forward to the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl.
Darrel is survived by a daughter, Melanie Payne and a grandson, Ryan Payne both of Ocean Park, Wash.; a sister, Dawn Coleman (Ron) of Longview; and many nieces and nephews. He was especially close to his nephew, Loren Coleman (Heather) of Spokane and his niece, Lori Searcy of Longview. He had many grandnieces and grandnephews whom he loved and enjoyed, even through all the chaos.
Cremation has taken place. Darrel’s final resting place will be the Pacific Ocean off Waikiki Beach, Hawaii; completing his dream to have visited all 50 states. Per Darrel’s request, no traditional service will be held. His family will hold a private celebration of his life on Super Bowl Sunday if his “Hawks” are playing. An alternate date is not being considered at this time. Meanwhile, put on your Seahawk jersies and give a glance toward “The Heavens” and remember the sweet man who touched all our hearts.
