Burton Joseph Morse, age 93, passed away Aug. 1, 2019, at his home in Kelso, WA. Burton was born Feb. 25, 1926, in Gove, KS, to Joseph A. and Evelyn Rose Morse. Burton moved from Kansas to Castle Rock 84 years ago and graduated from Castle Rock High School. He later worked as an operator for Weyerhaeuser Pulp and was a member of AWPPW and the IO of Foresters. Burton enjoyed fishing, traveling, woodworking and gardening. He loved life and had a keen sense of humor.
Burton married Frankie Rathbun in 1944 in Castle Rock and later married Pat Rutherford in 1965 in Kelso. He is survived by his daughter Carolyn Lair, of Kelso; stepdaughter Susan James, of Tacoma; stepsons Curtis Riley, of Castle Rock, Jim Sutton, of Henderson, NV, and Dan Sutton, of Longview; sister Shirley Homan, of Sedro-Woolley, WA; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Burton was preceded in death by his sister Catherine Nelson, stepdaughter Linda Zimmer, stepson Michael Riley and end of life partner Alice Wade.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 402 Crawford St., Kelso. Memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Kelso.
