Oct. 28, 1925 — Oct. 22, 2018
Billie Marie Freiberger (Grantham) died peacefully in a care facility in New Braunfels, Texas, on Oct. 22, 2018, at the age of 92.
Billie is survived by her sons, Brian (Ann) in New Braunfels and Brent in Phoenix, Ariz.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, formerly of Longview; a daughter, Jana, formerly of Longview; and a sister, Mary O’Trammel, formerly of Belen, N.M.
Billie was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Roswell, N.M., to Virgil and Mildred Grantham. She graduated from North Texas State Teachers College in 1947 with a degree in primary education. She taught first graders from 1963 to 1985 in Carlsbad, N.M., and Sheridan, Wyo. Billie was well-loved by staff and students, who keenly felt her absence upon her 1985 retirement.
She married Dale Freiberger in 1947. During their 64-year marriage, she and Dale traveled the world extensively, visiting six continents and 39 countries in his capacity as a Best Western director. After Dale’s 2012 death, she felt the need to continue her work with young children, and took up the tutoring of struggling students in Longview.
A memorial service is pending in Roswell, N.M., with a reception to follow.
