Behind the North Jetty, the contractor, J.E. McAmis, Inc. has a stone storage site where trucks bring stones from the quarry and they are sorted before being taken out to the jetty for placement.

The excavator placing stones on the North Jetty is making the new stones fit better with each other as well as raising its height. The right side shows a new sense of order, while the section on the left still shows the effects of years of beating waves.

The tip of the North Jetty of the Columbia River will extend another 300 feet farther out into the Pacific Ocean by the time the major rehabilitation project is finished in the fall of 2019.

Even the smaller three- to eight-ton stones used on the North Jetty rehabilitation project dwarf the people working on the project at the mouth of the Columbia River. The Cape Disappointment lighthouse lies behind them.
