Keun Palu-Thompson scored 23 points as four players scored in double digits to guide Lower Columbia College to a 85-78 victory over Mount Hood in the NWAC Championships quarterfinals Friday at Everett Community College. Palu-Thompson added seven rebounds and three steals as the Red Devils overcame a 38-36 halftime deficit.
LCC advances to Saturday’s semifinal against Walla Walla, which beat Whatcom 100-80 in the quarterfinals Friday. The game is slated for 8 p.m. in Everett and the winner moves on to Sunday’s championship against either Tacoma or Umpqua.
LCC also had 17 points from Brandon Cotton, 15 points from Devin Johnson and 14 points from Spencer Sweet Friday, as the Devils went 26 of 57 (46 percent) from the field, including 9 of 22 from 3-point range. Marcus Lord chipped in a team-high eight rebounds while Johnson tallied seven rebounds and six assists. Cody Thompson paced Mount Hood with 18 points and eight rebounds, as the Saints shot 29 of 66 (44 percent) from the field.
To get to Friday’s quarterfinals, the Devils first defeated Spokane 81-65 Thursday, again receiving a well-balanced scoring effort. Palu-Thompson paced LCC Thursday with 16 points and nine rebounds, as Devin Johnson added 13 points and six assists, Lord tallied 12 points, Elijah Cotton-Welch went for 12 points and 10 rebounds and Cotton added 10 points. The Devils shot 33 of 59 (56 percent) from the field in Thursday’s win after trailing 42-38 at the break. Levi Taylor scored 18 points for the Sasquatch, which went just 23 of 67 (34 percent) from the floor.
