The Cowlitz Black Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a 6-2 victory over the Bend Elks in West Coast League play Tuesday night at Vince Genna Stadium in Bend.
Kyle Knigge tied the game at 2-all with an RBI single in the top of the fifth inning and Paul Martinez drew a bases-loaded walk to bring in the go-ahead run later in the frame.
That was all the run support the Bears pitching staff would need. Right-handed reliever Billy Sahlinger held the Elks bats hitless the final three innings to finish off game-winner Cody Rogina’s solid start (two runs, five hits, one walk and three strikeouts in six innings).
The Bears (21-22) banged out 10 hits, led by two-hit nights from Knigge, Derrick Salberg and Ryan Littlefield, to hand Bend (26-17, second in South Division) its first loss in four games.
Cowlitz faces Bend in the second game of the three-game set Wednesday at 6:35 p.m.
