The Cowlitz Black Bears roared out to a 5-0 early lead Thursday against the Bend Elks at Vince Genna Stadium.

But a 5-run fifth inning narrowed the Elks’ gap. A 4-run eighth inning pushed Bend over the top and on their way to a 10-6 victory.

The loss drops Cowlitz (21-24) seven games out of the final postseason spot with nine game to play. Bend and Corvallis — each with 28-17 records — lead the WCL South Division.

Cowlitz scored early with two unearned runs in the second and a two-run single by Paul Martinez in the third.

The Bears return to Story Field on Friday to start weekend series with Medford.
