Castle Rock (16-0)

State appearances: 24 (Best finish: State champs —1987, ’93, 2012)

First-round matchup: Coupeville (11-3), 3:15 p.m. Friday

Quarter bracket opponents: King’s (15-2), Lakeside (Nine Mile Falls) (16-0)

Outlook: A rather tough draw for the Rockets, who get a Coupeville squad that won the Olympic League to start off, before really meeting the state heavyweights in the quarterfinals. King’s has losses to only 2A talent Archbishop Murphy and 1A power Lynden Christian. The Knights also have state trophies in 12 of the past 13 years. Undefeated Lakeside is the defending state champions and has just one loss the past two years.

Kalama (14-6)

State appearances: 23 (Best finish: State champs — 2016)

First-round matchup: La Conner (15-1), 1:30 p.m. Thursday

Quarter bracket opponents: Tri-Cities Prep (13-4), Northwest Christian (Colbert) (14-3)

Outlook: The defending state champs get a familiar face in the first round with the Braves, who were swept in last year’s state semifinals by Kalama. La Conner won the Northwest League and owns state trophies in each of the past four seasons.

The second-round meeting will be either against TCP, which hasn’t secured a state trophy in program history but the Jaguars are in their third state tourney in five years. NWC is in its fourth straight state tourney but failed to place last season.

Toutle Lake (11-8)

State appearances: 33 (Best finish: State champs — 1997, ’98, ’99)

First-round matchup: Colfax (16-1), 11:45 a.m. Thursday

Quarter bracket opponents: Tonasket (13-4), Napavine (17-1)

Outlook: The Ducks square off with the super power Bulldogs in the opening round.

Colfax has 22 straight state trophies, including 12 state championships. Colfax also topped Toutle Lake in a tourney earlier this year 2-0. The second-round opponent will be either Tonasket or Napavine. Tonasket is in its first state appearance since 2003, while Napavine is fresh off a district title after topping league champion and defending state runner-up Mossyrock 3-1 in the title game.

Three Rivers Christian (14-3)

State appearances: 6 (Best finish: Fourth — 2016)

First-round matchup: Odessa (13-5), 8:45 a.m. Thursday

Quarter bracket opponents: Wilson Creek (12-2), Quilcene (17-1)

Outlook: The Southwest District champions look to improve on their best finish in program history starting with Odessa Thursday. The Tigers are in their first state tourney since 2008 after finishing third in their district tournament. After that, the Eagles will either meet Wilson Creek or Quilcene. The Wilson Creek Devils are in their first state tourney since 2009. The Quilcene Rangers are the only team with sustained success in the state tourney in this quarter bracket, with state trophies in each of the past four years.
