Peyton Noah absorbed an offensive charge from Johnny Green with 1.1 seconds left as the Kelso Hilanders held on for a 52-51 victory over Fort Vancouver in Greater St. Helens 3A League boys basketball on Friday in Vancouver.
Shaw Anderson paced Kelso with 25 points, with Emmitt Kinch adding 19.
“Peyton made a fantastic play at the end of the game,” Kelso coach Joe Kinch said. “We won our fourth league game on the road, and we’re off to a really good start.”
Kelso (10-3, 4-0 league) trailed 9-7 after the first quarter as the Hilanders had seven of their 13 turnovers in the period.
“We settled in and did a nice job after the first quarter taking care of the ball,” Kinch said.
The Hilanders outscored Fort 23-15 in the third quarter to trail 37-36 going into the final eight minutes. Kelso pulled ahead midway through the final period, and held on for the win.
Seton Catholic 56, Castle Rock 54: Seton drove the length of the floor following a Rockets’ turnover to hit a shot at the buzzer for a Trico League victory at LeBaron Court on Friday in Castle Rock.
CR (5-9, 0-4 league) led 47-38 going into the final eight minutes. Connor Edwards led CR with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Ethan Perdue had 11 points, and Jonny Boissonault grabbed 10 rebounds.
Kalama 52, Pe Ell 50: Max Ross hit a layup with a second remaining to give the Chinooks a Central 2B League victory at Virgil Simmons Court on Friday in Kalama.
Ross finished with a team-high 11 points. Also for the Chinooks (6-7, 4-5 league), Keenan Lindsey had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Grant Vandenberg pulled 10 rebounds.
Wahkiakum 49, Rainier, Wash. 37: The Brown brothers combined for 21 points as the Mules galloped to a Central 2B League victory on Friday in Cathlamet.
“They’re a much bigger team, but we rebounded well and did some good things on defense,” Wahkiakum coach Todd Souvenir said. “It turned in a physical game.”
Zach Brown had 11 points, and Luke Brown added 10 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as the Mules improved to 4-6, 4-5 in league).
Adna 68, Toutle Lake 54: Logan Grabenhorst netted 20 points, and two other Ducks scored in double-figures in a Central 2B League game on Friday in Toutle.
Grabenhorst also pulled seven rebounds. Also for TL (10-3, 6-3 league), Michael Adams had 13 points, Cam Swanson added 10 points and three steals, and Zach Vetter dished five assists.
Napavine 68, Winlock 64: Noah Patching netted 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, but the Cardinals came out on the short end of a Central 2B League matchup on Friday in Winlock.
Also for Cardinals (8-4, 5-4 league), Dawson Hall tossed in 13 points, Bryce Cline added 12, and Carter Whitehead chipped in 11.
Chief Leschi 68, Ilwaco 61: The Fishermen had a string of eight consecutive missed free throws which proved costly in a Pacific 2B League setback on Friday in Ilwaco.
Reese Tynkila paced Ilwaco (8-7, 7-4 league) with 18 points. Calvin Baze added 15, and Alex Kaino had 13.
Naselle 59, South Bend 48: Jacob Eaton paced the Comets with 18 points and Antonio Nolan kicked in 17 in the nonleague victory.
Kelso 48, Fort Vancouver 10: The Lassies played lockdown defense in a Greater St. Helens 3A League victory on Friday at home.
Kelso (8-4, 3-0) led 24-4 at halftime, and got a running clock in the third quarter. Alexis Kleven led the Lassies with 12 points, Kylee Gibbs added, and Turner Joy made seven steals.
Mark Morris 64, Hockinson 40: Madison Mosier had a double-double with 21 points and 10 assists as the Monarchs rolled to a Greater St. Helens 2A League victory on Friday at Ted M. Natt Court.
Also for MM (7-5, 3-2 league), Alexis Troy and Libby Bartleson added 16 points.
R.A. Long 54, Ridgefield 39: The Lumberjills’ backcourt duo of Eastyn Reeves and Arianna Maryott combined for 36 points in a Greater St. Helens 2A League game at Joe Moses Court on Friday.
Reeves netted a game-high 20 points, with Maryott adding 16. Also for RAL (4-6, 1-4 league), Bobbi Clark pulled 10 rebounds.
Ilwaco 83, Chief Leschi 11: Makenzie Kaech and Madeline Jacobson combined for 46 points in the Pacific 2B League victory. Eliza Bannister chipped in 18 points with seven steals. Kaech added eight assists and Jacobson tallied four blocks. The Fishermen scored 34 points in the opening eight minutes and held Chief Leschi to just two points in the final three frames.
South Bend 40, Naselle 6: Lilli Zimmerman scored six points, grabbed 18 rebounds and made two steals for the Comets in a nonleague loss on Friday in South Bend.
Also for Naselle (5-7), Jackie Steenerson grabbed five rebounds.
Mark Morris 1797, Ridgefield 1353: Brooklyn Boudreau rolled 227-408, and Madie Flint added 195-328 as the Monarchs prevailed in a Greater St. Helens League match on Friday at Triangle Bowl.
Kelso 1917, Mountain View 1505: Sami Strehle paced the Lassies with 200-384 in a Greater St. Helens League on Friday at Triangle Bowl.
