Kelso’s boys’ basketball team fell behind at the end of the first quarter, but led by halftime and never relinquished control in its 67-55 Greater St. Helens 3A League win at Evergreen on Tuesday.
“I thought we were pretty steady,” coach Joe Kinch said. “We just hung in there.”
Kelso was 20-23 from the charity stripe, and shot well from the field, Kinch said.
Shaw Anderson scored 22 points, and Riley Noah added 21.
Kelso (9-3, 3-0 league) plays its fourth consecutive road game at Fort Vancouver on Friday.
Ilwaco 67, Ocosta 58: The Fishermen dug out of an early 20-4 hole to earn the Pacific 2B League win on Tuesday. Reese Tynkila finished with 19 points, Alex Kaino added 14, Daniel Whiting tallied 13 and Calvin Baze chipped in 10 for Ilwaco (8-6, 7-3 league). Baze added seven rebounds and six assists, and Jeb Sheldon added eight rebounds.
“I’m proud of the way they fought back,” coach Tim Harrell said.
La Center 75, Castle Rock 48: The Rockets dropped a Trico 1A League road game Tuesday despite hanging on early. Outscored 23-9 in the second frame, Castle Rock was simply outpaced. Parker Patching scored 17 points, though, and Connor Edwards added 13.
Columbia Adventist Academy 69, Three Rivers Christian 39: The Eagles fell behind early and didn’t recover in their Columbia Valley 1B League home loss Tuesday. Wyatt Richards and Gabe Moreno-Chandler scored 12 points apiece. Three Rivers hosts Firm Foundation Christian on Thursday.
De La Salle 60, Clatskanie 40: The Tigers couldn’t get going Tuesday, falling victim to Lewis and Clark 3A opponent De La Salle at home. Cooper Blodgett scored 10 points and Dusten Sewald added nine.
Clatskanie plays next at Rainier on Friday.
Naselle 51, Firm Foundation 33: A 22-point second quarter helped propel the Comets to a Columbia Valley 1B League victory on Tuesday in Vancouver.
Naselle (7-5, 2-0 league) led 34-14 at halftime. Jacob Eaton led the Comets with 15 points, Kolby Glenn tossed in 11, and Cole Dorman added nine.
Mark Morris, R.A. Long at Vancouver: Kodee Soetamin of Mark Morris won an event and helped a relay to victory in a five-team Greater St. Helens League meet held at the Clark County YMCA on Tuesday in Vancouver.
MM beat Prairie 116-52, Hockinson 112-55, and Battle Ground 104-65. R.A. Long lost to Hockinson and Battle Ground by identical 103-56 scores, and fell to Prairie 88-69.
Soetamin won the 100-yard butterfly (58.46 seconds), and joined Tyler Pospichal, Dawson Dang and Brian Franklin on the top 200 medley relay in 1:52.94. Also for MM, Andrew MacDonnell took the 500 free in 5:40.21, and Kaden Schafer won the 100 back in 1:02.92.
RAL had no winners. Peter Morris was third in the 200 free in 2:14.34, and the 200 medley relay of Michael Webster, Tyler Reece, Zachary Hayes and Morris was third in 2:03.17.
