Squirrel Fest organizers are seeking groups wanting to march in the festival's Longview Kiwanis Squirrel Fest Kid's parade Aug. 25.

The 10 a.m. parade starts at Florida Street and Commerce Avenue and finishes at the Civic Center.

"We're looking for marching bands, church groups, civic groups — anyone that wants to participate and show they're nuts about Longview," said Don Cianci, a member of the Longview Sandbaggers Club, which organizes Squirrel Fest.

To register for the parade, go to www.lvsquirrelfest.com/festival/parade/.

Following the parade is a day-long lineup of squirrely events at the Civic Center to celebrate Longview's furry mascot for the second year. Highlights include unveiling the city's third squirrel bridge, food and craft vendors, kids' games, live entertainment by L-Bow the Clown and Caspar BabyPants, and evening performances by Raeanne's Groove and an Elvis impersonator. A 10:30 p.m. fireworks show will cap off the night.

The festival falls on the same day as the Unique Tin car show and cruise. Once again, Squirrel Fest will be held in conjunction with the Longview Grand Prix Criterium, a professional bicycle race near the Civic Center traffic circle. The race is put on by Highlander Cycling.
