A Skamokawa man whose body was found on the Washington side of the Columbia River west of Skamokawa last Sunday is determined to have drowned.
Wahkiakum County Coroner Dan Bigelow said Monday morning that the official cause of death for Stan Thacker, 62, was asphyxia by freshwater drowning. The manner of death is still undetermined.
“At this point I think it’s safe to say that we’re never going to know exactly for sure” how Thatcher died, Bigelow said.
The Coast Guard and Wahkiakum County sheriff’s office responded when Thacker was first reported missing the night of March 18. Friends of Thackers who joined the search found his body Sunday morning, according to Bigelow. Thacker’s truck and trailer were still at the Skamokawa boat launch, but his boat was still missing.
According to Bigelow, Thacker’s boat, a 14-foot skiff, was found this weekend by friends who continued the search.
A funeral service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Skamokawa Grange.
