A public memorial service for Army Specialist Mikayla "Kayla" Bragg of Longview will be held in Federal Way at 1 p.m. Saturday.

More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the services at Christian Faith Center, 33645 S. 20th Ave., according to a press release from Serenity Funeral Home of Renton, which is handling the arrangements.

Following the service, a private committal ceremony will be held at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash., where Bragg's cremated remains will be committed with full military honors.

Locally, a celebration of life for Bragg will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday (Jan. 5) at the Kelso Eagles, 609 S. Pacific Ave., Kelso.

The 21-year-old Mark Morris High School graduate was shot and killed Dec. 20 while on guard duty in the Khowst Province along Afghanistan's southeast border. She'd been deployed from Fort Knox to Afghanistan last summer and was scheduled to return from her first tour early this month.

About 60 people attended Bragg's military memorial service at Fort Knox in Kentucky on Dec. 29. Her remains were flown to Joint Base Lewis McChord on Tuesday, her family said.
