An autopsy conducted on the body of a woman found along the Columbia River near Chinook last week revealed the cause of death to be accidental drowning, said Mark McClain, Pacific County prosecuting attorney.
A bystander walking along the river's shore discovered the female body shortly before 7 p.m. March 7 near the end of Third Street. Officials said no other details are available at this time.
Pacific County Sheriff Scott Johnson said the office has some potential leads on where the body came from. He said bodies can travel as far as 100 miles into the coastal town due to the tides.
"We believe that she floated to that location," Johnson said. "They can travel a very, very long distance."
Johnson said there will be more information released in the coming days.
