Port of Longview commissioners are expected to approve a proposed 2018 budget during a special meeting at 10 a.m. Tuesday.
The proposed $31.1 million budget is based on port projections that cargo activity will decline. Commissioners want to lower the port's property tax rate by about 20 percent, for the second year in a row, which will put a slight dent in property tax revenue, too.
More than half of the budget — or $17.9 million — covers operational expenses tied to actually running the docks. That's a decrease in the $19.6 million the port projects to spend on operations this year.
Big ticket items include spending for the industrial rail corridor expansion, building a walkway at Willow Grove Park and engineering for a new entrance into Barlow Point.
The preliminary 2018 budget can be viewed online by visiting the "Agenda and Meetings" page at www.portoflongview.com and selecting the Nov. 7 agenda.
